Rita Ep 13 - "The Bet" by Anton Chekov

It is good to be back, after my month off for jury duty!  This week's story is a psychological thriller by Anton Chekhov: "The Bet.

It's an odd story, quiet yet tense, but also not a modern thriller.  It's the sort of story that you might want to think about or talk about afterwards -- especially about the choices these characters made, and whether the ending is a happy one or not.

Quick Update

Reading in the Attic has been on hiatus for a month or so because I had jury duty.  We have finished with the trial, and served justice, and I am now finally getting my feet under me.

I hope to have the next episode, featuring some short stories by Chekhov, up on March 31.  Then an excerpt from  a wonderful Western/High Fantasy by Kyra Halland titled Beneath The Canyons on April 14.

I have so much to catch up on, that I have to cut back on my posting frequency: I plan to do episodes every other week when I have stand-alone stories. If I do another serialized longer story, I will do those episodes weekly.

RitA Ep 12 -- On Hiatus

Reading In The Attic is going on hiatus for the month of March, due to me being called to Jury Duty!

I was actually planning to slow down the posting schedule for a bit anyway (I need to get some writing done), but the call of duty made me realize I just needed to set it aside for a little bit.

We'll be back on March 31!

I also created an audio version of this Hiatus Announcement for those who don't read the blog but only listen to the podcast.  (Where I also mention a few of the upcoming stories.)

RitA Ep 8 - "Harsh Climate" part 4

Continuing with the light winter thriller: Harsh Climate.  In Part 4, the ransom call throws everybody's plans for a loop.

I have to admit that this is my favorite episode of the story, mainly because it throws all the characters for a loop.  If you are the sort of person who likes to skip ahead and sample bits from later in the story, I'd say this is the one to pick.

RitA Ep 5 - "Harsh Climate" part 1

This week we begin "Harsh Climate," a light thriller about a pair of runaway teens who stumble across a kidnapping plot while seeking shelter from cold weather.

I first wrote those as a low budget screenplay -- with less emphasis on the effects and more on the actors, and limited location.  This is the novella version, and should take seven episodes to complete.  For those interested in reading the ebook, you can find it at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Apple's iBookstore, as well as other ebook vendors.
